Summers, Phillip Max

WHEREAS, the Supreme Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity has established the Mr. Pi Kappa Phi Award as its highest honor; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Phillip M. Summers was initiated into Alpha Psi Chapter at Indiana University on November 15, 1958; and

WHEREAS, he has always given unselfishly of his time, leadership, and sound character in numerous capacities and in small acts of kindness; and

WHEREAS, Brother Summers, as an undergraduate, represented Alpha Psi Chapter at the first Pi Kapp College in Sumter, South Carolina, in 1959; and

WHEREAS, in his capacity as an educator and subsequent President of Vincennes University he has brought credit to Pi Kappa Phi through his leadership in higher education; and

WHEREAS, Brother Summers has served the National Council of Pi Kappa Phi as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President; and

WHEREAS, in serving as National President, Brother Summers presided over the search for a new executive director and facilitated a smooth transition of fraternal leadership; and

WHEREAS, in honor of his service to Pi Kappa Phi he was awarded the Merit Citation for exceptionally meritorious service to the Fraternity by the 45'" Supreme Chapter in 1996; and

WHEREAS, the Fraternity Executives Association awarded Brother Summers in 2001 the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his efforts to advance the ideals and efforts of fraternities; and

WHEREAS, he has given his utmost attention, dedication, and effort to the Greater Fraternity by serving on the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation Board of Governors and as a member of the Nu Phi Society; and

WHEREAS, Brother Summers has fulfilled his duties to his oath of brotherhood by serving as an example for all members through his unselfish loyalty to Pi Kappa Phi;

NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that Brother Phillip M. Summers be extended the Fraternity's deepest appreciation for his proven care and devotion to lifelong brotherhood in Pi Kappa Phi; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the National Council of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity does hereby declare Brother Phillip Max Summers to be Mr. Pi Kappa Phi 2003.
