Founding

Founding of Pi Kappa Phi
In 1904, friends Andrew Alexander Kroeg Jr., Lawrence Harry Mixson and Simon Fogarty founded Nu Phi, or “non-fraternity,” to combat the power of fraternities in campus elections. Nu Phi's efforts were unsuccessful, however, and the three men, along with the rest of the remaining Nu Phi members, met on December 10, 1904, to found their own fraternity, which they called Pi Kappa Phi.
