The first edition of Pi Kappa Phi's magazine, at the time titled the Pi Kappa Phi Journal, features entries from each of the Fraternity's earliest chapters.

Early Expansion

Around the time of Pi Kappa Phi’s founding, the state of South Carolina prohibited fraternities by law. The College of Charleston was one of the only schools in South Carolina to tolerate fraternities. One other institution in South Carolina, Presbyterian College, allowed Pi Kappa Phi to install Beta Chapter in 1907. In 1909, Gamma Chapter at the University of California, Berkeley was installed, proving Pi Kappa Phi’s potential to be a national fraternity.
