Philanthropy and Pi Kappa Phi

An excerpt from the 1988 Winter issue of the Star and Lamp, one of the earliest mentions of the Journey of Hope in Pi Kappa Phi’s magazine.
Envisioning Journey of Hope
Inspired by Rogers’ trip, Ken Kaiser, Delta Sigma (Bowling Green State), then assistant executive director of PUSH America, began to formalize the idea of a cross-country cycling event. He envisioned this would encourage hands-on involvement from undergraduate members, making them actively experience the mission of PUSH America. Emphasizing the importance of personal volunteerism and one-on-one relationships between college students and individuals with disabilities, Kaiser appointed Jim Karlovec, Delta Sigma (Bowling Green State), as the project coordinator for the first Journey of Hope ride.
