Philanthropy and Pi Kappa Phi

Gear Up Florida
In 1997, a two-week cycling trip across Florida, modeled after Journey of Hope, took place. The mission was to reach as many people as possible across the state of Florida, spreading a message of acceptance and understanding on behalf of people with disabilities. While on the surface cycling seems to be the trip’s focus, the heart of the trip is Friendship Visits with local organizations supporting people with disabilities. Annually, 45 undergraduate and alumni brothers cycle 850 miles through 13 cities in Florida. More than 600 Pi Kappa Phi brothers have participated in Gear Up Florida since 1997, raising more than $150,000 each year.
